The prophecy said that the messiah would restore Israel and many people tried to predict what that would mean at the time. When Jesus had come to Jerusalem, many thought that the fulfillment of the prophecy would have Jesus overthrow the government or something similar. Nobody had expected that the prophecy would be fulfilled by the cleansing of the Temple and the restoration of Israel being in the form of a New Covenant.
When people try to use the Bible to predict the future, they are acting in futility. Once Jesus had restored Israel, it became apparent that it was the fulfillment of the prophecy in a way no one had anticipated. When people try to make claims of knowing what the Second Coming will be, they are just as foolish as those who thought Jesus would overthrow the government in Jerusalem.
Instead of worrying about our preconceptions of what we think the Second Coming will be like and using our predictions as major theological foundations, we should instead recognize that we are not capable of fully understanding the prophecies until after they have been fulfilled.
Right on - be a part of bettering the world today.
